This was GS' 17th year to participate. We had 27 volunteers, many of whom have been repeating for years.
We continued to be fortunate in working for and with the B. Frank Joy Co. We love the way they are prepared and help facilitate our effort. Flint Criley was our house captain and followed Mike Roche's footsteps in planning out the work.
This house was in Capital Heights in a quiet neighborhood. There were many projects to do -- the most-major work was done by the BFJ crew, it was a new ramped sidewalk to the front door plus wooden handrailing.
Our yard crew mostly weeded and cleared debris, trying to avoid poison ivy that was evident outside. Some small plants and shrubs were added. The chain link fence got a new coat of paint -- both sprayed and brushed on. The lawn was mowed and grass seed was layed.
Inside the house repairs were made to the stair railing and the bedroom and bathroom doors. The bathroom was cleaned, caulked and painted. A new shower curtain and rod was installed. The kitchen was thoroughly cleaned, includng ceiling, walls, and tiles, then painted.
It was a busy day, with lunch provided by Ledo's pizza. We left tired but feeling good about the good we did. If you have not had opportunity to participate in XMAS in April, please consider joiing this rewarding experince.
Faithfully, Janice Taggart
